Horn foe vows to derail Pacquiao rematch plans

Jeff Horn

MANILA, Philippines – The British fighter who will challenge Jeff Horn for the WBO welterweight championship has promised to spoil the Australian’s plan for a rematch with Manny Pacquiao.

Horn will make the first defense of the title against a relatively unknown Gary Corcoran on December 13, a fight seen to be an intermission to a much-bigger rematch with Pacquiao sometime next year.

But the London-based Corcoran (17-1, with 7 KOs) warned Horn he is out to shock the world.

"I think it is a mistake (to plan ahead for the Pacquiao rematch) — I will show him on the night," Corcoran said in an AAP report.

Horn ended up with Corcoran as his dance partner after talks for another fight with Pacquiao fell down the drain due to various reasons. But Horn’s promoter Dean Lonergan has made it clear that the ultimate goal is to lure Pacquiao to another bout in Brisbane.

The 29-year-old Australian banger stunned the boxing world when he pulled off a decision victory over Pacquiao last July, which Corcoran will also try to replicate.

Corcoran's trainer Peter Stanley reiterated their plan to throw a monkey wrench to Horn’s future boxing move.

"We will have to play the villain here. You've made all these lovely plans but we will come and upset them," he said.

"Be careful what you wish for — you want a fight, we will give you a fight," added Stanley.
