Lady Stags bounce back, sweep Cards
MANILA, Philippines - San Sebastian routed a listless Mapua, 25-8, 25-16, 25-10, to get back on track in women’s division of the 90th NCAA volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City yesterday.
Shakey’s V-League veteran Gretchel Soltones uncorked a team-best 12 hits, all coming on spikes, to propel the Lady Stags to their seventh victory against a loss, which came at the hands of the Arellano University Lady Chiefs, 21-25, 25-15, 14-25, 18-25, last Tuesday.
It was a bounce back effort for the power-hitting Soltones, who was held to a season-low four hits in that loss to Arellano U, which eventually seized the solo with a 6-0 (win-loss) card.
The Lady Cardinals fell to 1-5.
Jose Rizal, for its part, downed Lyceum, 25-21, 25-19, 25-17, to improve to 5-3.
Ma. Shola Alvarez led all hitters with 17 points while Rosali Pepito and Iris Oliveros added 12 and 10 markers, respectively.
In men’s action, Mapua swept San Sebastian, 25-17, 25-18, 25-21, to improve to 2-4.
