Barbosa joins Team Phl

MANILA, Philippines - GM Oliver Barbosa has decided to suit up for the Philippine team vying in the 41st Chess Olympiad in Norway next month, bolstering a squad reeling from the pullout of top player GM Wesley So.

“Oliver Barbosa is playing,” said National Chess Federation of the Phl executive director and non-playing team captain GM Jayson Gonzales yesterday.

Barbosa, 27, will thus join GMs Julio Catalino Sadorra, Eugene Torre, John Paul Gomez and IM Paulo Bersamina in the team competing in the biennial event set Aug. 1-15 in Tromso.
