Perasol credits Arespacochaga but wary of last 2 games

MANILA, Philippines -- Suspended coach Bo Perasol is happy with Ateneo's crucial 77-71 win over University of the East Sunday but remains wary of the challenges ahead for the six-peat seeking squad.

“Big win for us but what I told them is that we just equalized with UST. This was a necessary win, a win that we needed to take, wala naman kasing ibang maglalaban dun (Final Four), kami lang,” said Perasol, who was suspended for a near altercation with a fan after the ADMU-DLSU game last Sunday.

Perasol stressed the challenge of their last two assignments in the elimination round of season 76 of the UAAP, pointing out that NU and UST have imports that give them a disadvantage in size.

“It will be an uphill climb. The good thing about the players is that they want to be there. We don’t have many edge, yung next two games namin may import (Mbe with NU, Abdul with UST)," said Perasol.

"Mismatch kami sa mga bigs. We cannot relax sa mga ginagawa namin sa depensa. Bottomline is if we really want it, we need to work for it. Whatever it takes, kailangan manalo, wala namang ibang option," he added.

Sandy Arespacochaga received praise from the first-year mentor and former PBA head coach, who took over the coaching duties in his absence.

“I trust him. May mga binigay lang akong general game plan but yung diskarte sa game, lahat yun sa kanya. Kilala naman naming ang isa’t isa, he knows what we want, bottomline siya gumawa nun di ako. Credit coach Sandy, hindi madali yung ginawa niya.” said Perasol, regarding the effort of his assistant coach.

Perasol made it clear that he harbors no ill-feelings with the UAAP board and accepts his responsibilities for his actions that led to his suspension.

“I trust the wisdom of the board. There are consequences to what we do and we have to accept that,” he said.
