Valdez leads UAAP volleyball in statistical pts

MANILA, Philippines -  Ateneo star Alyssa Valdez continues to live up to the hype as she lords it over the field in scoring in the UAAP Season 75 women’s volleyball tournament.

A former UST high school standout, Valdez has been dishing out big games, powering the league-leading Lady Eagles to a remarkable five-game winning run prior to the Christmas break.

Based on the stats released by the league’s official statistician TMX Sports, Valdez has piled up 101 points on 91 spikes, nine service aces and a block. She has a remarkable 45.96 percent success rating in attacks.

National University’s Dindin Santiago, a former high school teammate of Valdez, is in second with 94 points with the 6-foot-1 sensation assembling 74 points, 13 service winners and seven blocks.

Santiago leads the league in service with 0.62 average per set.

Another NU standout, Myla Pablo is running third with 85 points, while Rosemarie Vargas of Far Eastern University is in fourth spot with 65 points. Vargas is trailing behind Santiago in the race for the Best Server with 0.57.

Ateneo’s Fille Cainglet had 57 points to round up the top five scoring leaders.

Pablo is the second-best attacker behind Valdez with a 40.45 percent success rating.

Defending champion La Salle, using its height advantage to the hilt, has two players lording it over in the blocking department, as reigning MVP Abigail Maraño has a league-leading 0.82 average per set, followed by Mika Reyes with 0.76.

Lady Bulldogs’ top defensive specialist Jen Reyes is dominating in digs (3.10 average per set) and receiving (36.62 efficiency rating).

University of Santo Tomas playmaker Loren Lantin is the surprise leader in setting with 6.33 average per set.

Tournament resumes on Saturday featuring the showdown between Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Tamaraws at 3:30 p.m. at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.  UST and University of the East collide in the curtain raiser at 2 p.m.

On the next day, Ateneo and Adamson clash at 3:30 p.m., right after La Salle and University of the Philippines cross paths at 2 p.m.
