The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Over 500 swimmers, led by UAAP champion Clarie Adorna and former Palarong Pambansa star Gian Berino, are competing in the 33rd leg of the Philippine Swimming League, dubbed the third “Nikki Coseteng Swimming Championship” on Nov. 24 at the Rizal Memorial swimming pool.

Former Sen. Coseteng, who is also DPS president and chief executive officer, said the competition is open to PSL members and non-members as well as to schools, clubs and teams.

The age-group competition will be from five years old to 19-and-over.

PSL president Susan Papa said the competition on the college level will also serve as the final selection for the 2013 Universiade to be held in July 2013 in Kazan, Russia. The tournament will also select the swimmers to swim meets in Dubai and Thailand.

The PSL is the national sports association for universities and colleges and is a member of FESSAP, accredited by Federation Internationale Sports University.

Medals will be awarded to the three top swimmers of each of the 24 boys and girls individual events. Outstanding trophies will be awarded to swimmers who will break the most number of records in each age group category while huge Jade design team championship trophies will also be awarded to the first three teams with the most number of points.

Providing the fanfare in the opening ceremonies is the DPS Drum and Bugle Corps.
