Assumption seizes Girls-2 lead; Nocum shoots ace
MANILA, Philippines – Assumption pounced on the absence of La Salle Zobel’s top guns to seize a hefty 24-point lead in the Girls 2 team category even as Ashia Nocum of the School of the Holy Spirit scored a hole-in-one on her way to wresting the individual lead at the resumption of the ICTSI-JGFP Interschool golf tournament at the Valley North course in Antipolo.
Samanta Bruce tallied 42 and Andrea Pineda added 39 for Assumption’s 81-point total for the day and a two-round score of 135, pushing them past La Salle Zobel which could only amass 49 as world jungolf champ and first round top scorer Bernice Olivarez-Ilas did not play.
Mikhaela Fortuna had 37 and Astrud Moscoso counted with a 12 pulling the La Salle Zobel girls down with a 111 tally.
Nocum aced the 12th hole of the Valley North course to highlight her output of 47 and with an 88 total, moved six up on Andrea Pineda of Assumption.
Midgets 2 play of the tourney which has the major backing of ICTSI and also enjoying the big support of the Pancake House Group and Philippine Airlines, meanwhile, saw Ateneo 4, behind Riggs Illecas and Miles Conding, pulling away by 32 points over La Salle Greenhills 2. Illescas had 42 and Conding added 33 for 75 points that put Ateneo at 166 against the 134 of LSGH.
Illescas continues to lead the individual race with his 93, up by nine over Miguel Oliver Ilas of La Salle Zobel. Making big gains were Sean Ramos of La Salle GH who improved his standing from 17th to 12th place and Matthew Mateo (Ateneo 4) who moved from 14th to ninth.
In Group 2 played at the Riviera executive course, Gabby Subido of LSGH paced Midgets 1, Marc Garreth Nolasco of OB Montessori showed way in Midgets 2, Javi Lazatin of San Beda College led Midgets 3, Sunshine Zhang of OBM was on top in Girls 2 and Anya Cedo of KVI took the Girls 3 upperhand.
Play in the four-month series organized by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines resumes today with the juniors action at Aguinaldo and the college/high school girls at Ayala Greenfield.
