Meteors outshine Golden Lions in Laguna leg

SANTA CRUZ, Laguna, Philippines  – The Misamis Oriental Meteors toppled host Laguna Golden Lions, 91-75, in Day Two of the Laguna leg of the SMC Liga Pilipinas Conference V at the San Luis Sports Complex last Thursday.

Dino Daa and Egay Billones took over in the second quarter as the Meteors came through with a 15-0 binge to wrest control then built double-digit leads in the second half to score the rout and tie their victim at 1-1.

With Ron Capati, Ken Bono, Ronald Lamocha and Mark Andaya joining the fray, the Meteors posted their biggest lead at 77-57 early in the fourth period before cruising to victory.

In other results, the Ilocos Sur CS Tigers roared to their second straight win by beating MP Warriors of GenSan, 90-84, in the tournament backed by San Miguel, Molten, Summit Natural Drinking Water and Accel.

Warren Ybanez banged in a triple followed by a Chito Jaime basket that restored a nine-point cushion with 1:03 to play, 87-78. The duo then made crucial free throws down the stretch that preserved the win.

From a 22-22 standoff, Jaime, Ariel de Castro and Luis Palaganas made baskets en route to giving the Tigers of Gov. Luis “Chavit” Singson and coach Johnedel Cardel the first period, 28-27.
