Lamocso tops MCC chess

MANILA, Philippines - Unheralded Richel Lomocso drew with top seed Luke Farre after 28 moves of a Caro-Kann in the final round to rule the MCC 1850 below standard chess tourney at the St. Francis Square in Mandaluyong City over the weekend.

The 28-year-old Lomocso of Pasig City wound up with 4.5 points on four wins and one draw to top the five-round tournament for his first MCC title. He won P3,000.

Farre settled for joint second with No. 5 Jerome Villanueva, unrated Joseph Balmaceda and youthful Mark Medrano with four points apiece.
