GGC five dominates PCIBL tilt

MANILA, Philippines - Grace Gospel Church-SMIA rode on a big third quarter run to smother New Millenium Evangelical Church and rule the 2009 Phil-Chinese Interchurch Basketball League (PCIBL) Fellowship Cup Championship with a 71-54 romp at the Arellano gym recently.

The GGC-SMIA cagers recovered from a slow start and seized control in the second half, pouncing on their rivals’ erratic game to build leads of as many as 20 points before coasting to the victory halfway through the fourth quarter.

The win capped GGC’s remarkable campaign in the tournament, losing only once on a buzzer-beater by Jubilee Evangelical Church. But the setback only motivated the eventual champions, handled by coach Joseph Thai.

Tam Go and Dexter Quan, GGC’s 1-2 punch, went on to claim spots in the Mythical 5 with Quan bagging the MVP honors.

Grace Christian Church finished third while Jubilee Evangelical Church placed fourth in the annual tournament.
