Carlos lifts Angelicum to 4-shot edge

-

CANLUBANG, Laguna, Philippines – Jobim Carlos sizzled with a three-under-par round worth 57 points as Angelicum swept into the overall lead after the penultimate round Thursday of the Samsung Interscholastic golf championships at the Canlubang Golf and Country Club north course here.

Carlos, spearhead of the recent Putra Cup junior squad, carried the fight for his high school team bidding to end the domination of La Salle and Ateneo in boys play, grabbing a four-point edge over the college squad of La Salle-Taft through 36 holes.

Kenneth Kano chipped in 50 and Aristeo Mata scored 49 for Angelicum’s 301 which also sent the Quezon City school rushing to a 14-point advantage over La Salle Greenhills in their regular division.

Angelicum’s surge put the pressure even tougher on defending champion La Salle-Taft (145-297), which is just seven points up on a charging Ateneo squad (143-289).

Also sparkling on a fine day at the tree-lined course was runaway grade school winner Mia Legaspi who outscored Regina de Guzman from the same tees with a two-over 52 points. De Guzman, who fired a record 61 on medal card of 65 on the first day, made just 50.

St. Paul’s Pasig was also poised for a double victory in the girls action of the Interscholastics also backed by Wow Magic Sing, Crestlink, Cranuti, ABW and Gargol. Club Car is the hole-in-one sponsor.

Carlos emerged the overall individual leader with his 107, one better than Joey Huerva of La Salle. AR Ramos was far ahead in boys high school and so were de Guzman (college-high school) and Mia Legaspi (grade school).

The individual leaders among the boys were Edsel Tan of La Salle (college), dela Paz (high school) and Luigi Guerrero of La Salle in grade school. De Guzman and Daniella Uy had the best individual scores among the girls.
