Carranz outdoor national youth tennis slated

-

MANILA, Philippines – More than 500 participants all over the Visayas region are expected to participate in the Carranz Outdoor National Youth Table Tennis Games slated on May 20-24 at two venues in Bacolod City.

The four-day national selection tournament, organized by Table Tennis Association of the Philippines (TATAP) chairman Alvin Carranza, will select the national junior table tennis pool members for the Visayas region.

“We are aiming to discover more fresh talents by holding national junior table tennis events all over the country,” said Carranza, who is also the National Grassroots and Youth Development Program head.

The first two days of the event, supported also by Café Lupe, will be held in University of Saint La Salle and the last two days will be at SM Bacolod City, according to Carranza, an out-of-home media businessman and former national youth player.

The tournament, also organized by Lopues’ Table Tennis Association (LOPTTA), holds eight main events - girls’ and boys’ team under 13; girls’ and boys’ team under 17, boys’ and girls’ singles 13 under, and boys’ and girls’ singles 17 under.

The participants in the eight main events will only come from the Visayas region.

In other four events – men singles non-rank, women singles non-rank, men’s team and singles in the Liha events – participants from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao can join.

The Luzon selection was recently held during the successful staging of the 11th UP Chancellors’ Cup at the University of the Philippines in Diliman and Star Mall Alabang.

The deadline of entry of submission is on or before May 15, 2009. Please contact event coordinator and Professor Oscar Santelices (09178806161), Coach Floyd Lobaton (09153313648) or email at [email protected] for more details.
