Anton tops Subic race
Baguio-based restaurateur Carlos Anton of Shell-MP Turbo team thwarted Red Line Racing bet Chuck Montecillo's spirited challenge to rule the SVI Production Class Millennium Championship Series at the Subic International Raceway Sunday.
Anton's win capped a prolific run by the Shell-MP Turbo team in the Asian Festival of Speed at the Subic Bay Freeport. This included second- and third-place finishes by Anton and teammate Mike Potenciano, respectively, in the morning races.
A well-timed passing maneuver in the backstretch gave Anton an early lead which he kept in the ensuing laps to take the top podium spot.
Michael Francisco redeemed himself from a sixth place finish in the morning race with a second-place effort in the BF Goodrich Challenge Cup topped by PPG's Benedict dela Cruz in the afternoon run.
Actor Ramon Christopher Gutierrez proved his mettle in the novice class title series with a second place finish, MP Turbo's newest recruit Alex Padua finished all races in his debut, while Gulf Lubricants' Mon Lindo placed fifth in the production race.
Meanwhile, action in the SVI's Millennium GP Championship Series heats up at resumption of the event May 13-14, also at the SBMA Raceway.
