MTRCB at CHR, nagsanib-puwersa!

MANILA, Philippines – Lumagda sa isang Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) ang Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) at ang Commission on Human Rights (CHR) para paigtingin ang kamalayan ng publiko tungkol sa proteksyon at promosyon ng karapatang pantao.

Ang nasabing kasunduan ay nilagdaan ng MTRCB Chairperson na si Atty. Eugenio “Toto” Villareal kasama ang CHR Chairperson na si Jose Luis Martin “Chito” Gascon, MTRCB Board Member na si Atty. Noel Del Prado, at CHR Commissioner na si Karen Gomez-Dumpit sa opisina ng CHR sa Diliman, Quezon City noong Miyerkules, Dis­yembre 9.

Ayon kay Chair Toto, ang MOA ay isang kumpirmasyon ng kooperasyon na mayroon ang dalawang ahensya. “First, for the past few years, in both its developmental activities like the Matalinong Panonood for the protection of the viewers, especially children and women, and in the adjudication and dispute resolutions that we do, we have already adopted what we call a “rights-based” approach. And what greater ally we can have in this approach the men and women of the CHR. Se­­cond­l­y, because of our developmental mandate, we would also like to bring to our stakeholders all our lear­nings in human rights as these apply to media and entertainment,” pahayag niya.

Ibinahagi ni Chair Chito na bilang state institutions, ang CHR at ang MTRCB ay may ginagampanang mahalagang papel sa larangan ng pagbuo ng tinatawag na society o community of values. “The MTRCB of course is the ins­titution of government that ensures that whatever is produced, that impacts on our future, builds on, draws from, and strengthens a humane, democratic, and peaceful society. The same also with CHR which is a constitutional body that promotes and protects human rights, and we are excited about the prospect of cooperation that we might be able to develop bet­ween the CHR and the MTRCB as we continue to pro­mote the values of a humane society,” dagdag pa niya.

Dumalo rin sa ceremonial signing ang MTRCB Executive Director na si Atty. Ann Marie Nemenzo, mga Board Member na sina Atty. Jojo Salomon, Jackie Aquino-Gavino, at Gladys Reyes-Sommereux, kasama ang CHR Commissioners na sina Roberto Eugenio Cadiz at Gwendolyn Pimentel-Gana.
