Iloilo PSWDO defers financial aid

Jennifer P. Rendon - The Freeman

ILOILO CITY, Philippines  — Citing depleted funds, the Iloilo Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) has temporarily suspended the giving of financial assistance to indigents.

PSWDO chief Neneth Pador was however optimistic that her office could resume the aid distribution when the Provincial Board will approve Supplemental Budget No. 2.

Of the proposed P69.9 million Supplemental Budget No. 2, still pending at the PB, P3 million is set for PSWDO.

The P10 million budget allotted for financial assistance in the 2012 budget was already fully used, Pador said citing that around 70 indigents daily come to PSWDO for money under its Assistance for Individuals in Crisis Situations.

The program, which covers financial assistance for fire victims and for medical and burial expenses, distributes to beneficiaries the amount ranging from P1,000 to P3,000 depending on the need of the client or patient. (FREEMAN)
