MANILA, Philippines — Nangako si Philippine Football Federation president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta ng mas maraming programa para sa age-group players dahil sa pagbabalik ng isang malaking global brand.

Ayon kay Araneta, ang sponsorship ng Qatar Airways sa Philippines Football League ang magbibigay sa PFF ng sapat na pondo para sa national Under-17 tournament simula sa susunod na taon.

“We want to start the Under-17 tournament next year,” wika ni Araneta sa PFF na nagsimula nang magdaos ng national Under-15 tournament ngayong taon na nasa kanila nang final stages.

“We really have a lot of football activities coming in and I want to see that this is being implemented properly. We are not neglecting players in the age-group level. In fact, we have been revitalizing our grassroots program to find more homegrown talents in the country,” dagdag pa ng PFF chief.

Bukod sa national Under-17 tournament, magsasagawa rin ang PFF ng girls’ Under-16 and Under-18 regional tournament bilang bahagi ng kanilang pagpapalakas sa women’s football.

Umaasa si Araneta na ang nasabing mga torneo ang magpapaganda ng performances ng mga age-group teams sa lalahukang mga international tournaments.

Hangad din ni Araneta na muling maihalal bilang PFF president sa eleksyon sa Nobyembre 29.

Sinuportahan si Araneta ng 25 sa 32 regional football association re-presentatives nang ihayag niya ang kanyang kandidatura sa Bacolod City, ang hometown ni presidential hopeful Ricky Yanson.

Sa walong taon niya bilang top football exe-cutive ay iginiya ni Araneta ang men at wo-men’s national teams sa pinakamataas na FIFA ranking.
