MANILA, Philippines - Bukod sa mga boxing fans sa buong mundo, hindi rin naitago ni Manny Pacquiao ang kanyang kasiyahan nang opisyal na ihayag kahapon ni Floyd Mayweather, Jr. ang kanilang super fight sa Mayo 2 sa MGM Grand sa Las Vegas, Nevada.
Sinabi ni Pacquiao na matagal na niyang gustong labanan si Mayweather kungdi lamang sa mga isyung nauna nilang hindi napagkasunduan.
“I am very happy that Floyd Mayweather and I can give the fans the fight they have wanted for so many years,” ani Pacquiao.
“They have waited long enough and they deserve it. It is an honor to be part of this historic event. I dedicate this fight to all the fans who willed this fight to happen and, as always, to bring glory to the Philippines and my fellow Filipinos around the world,” dagdag pa nito.
Nauna nang sinabi ni chief trainer Freddie Roach na inaasahan na niyang kaagad makikita si Pacquiao sa kanyang Wild Card Gym sa Hollywood, California para paghandaan ang laban kay Mayweather.
“Floyd should enjoy being the A-side while he can,” ani Roach. “Because on May 2, Manny is going to put him on his backside.”
Ang nakatulong sa pagdedesisyon ni Mayweather ay ang kanyang pakikipag-usap kay Pacquiao sa hotel suite nito sa Miami, Florida matapos manood ng laro ng Miami Heat at Milwaukee Bucks noong nakaraang buwan.
“I am glad my decision to meet with Manny and discuss making this fight happen helped get the deal done,” sabi ni Mayweather.
“Giving the fans what they want to see is always my main focus. This will be the biggest event in the history of the sport. Boxing fans and sports fans around the world will witness greatness on May 2. I am the best ever, TBE, and this fight will be another opportunity to showcase my skills and do what I do best, which is win,” dagdag pa nito.
Kumpiyansa si Mayweather, magdiriwang ng kanyang ika-38 kaarawan sa Pebrero 24, na hindi madudungisan ni Pacquiao ang kanyang malinis na 47-0-0 record. (RC)
