Karatekas nag-ambag ng bronze
MANILA, Philippines — Nadagdagan ang medalya ng Team Philippines matapos masungkit ng Pinay karatekas ang tanso sa women’s kata team event ng 2026 Asian Games kahapon sa Toyohashi Gymnasium sa Nagoya, Japan.
Nasiguro ng Pinay squad ang tanso nang pataubin nito ang Thailand sa iskor na 4-1 sa battle-for-third match.
Nagtala sina Samantha Emmanuelle Veguillas, Ysabielle Arrogante at Rebecca Cyril Torres ng 7.8, 7.7, 7.9, 8.7 at 8.1 kumpara sa nakuha ng Thailand na 7.6, 7.5, 7.7, 8.5 at 8.3.
“I feel like it was our teamwork. I feel like we were always showing up for each other. Madalas kami nag-training kahit anong oras, kahit ilang oras. So, I feel like we were able to show up for each other, motivate each other,” ani Veguillas.
Nauna nang tinalo ng Pinay karatekas sina Cambodians Sreynuch Puthea, Oun Sreyda at That Chhenghorng sa iskor na 5-0 sa quarterfinals bago yumuko sa Iran sa semifinals.
“It has been a long journey. We struggled and lost multiple times over the years but we just kept on performing until the end,” ani Torres.
Ito ang ikatlong tansong medalya ng Pilipinas sa Asian Games matapos makahirit ng tanso ang women’s soft tennis team at si Carlos Alvarez sa mixed martial arts.
“Basta ibibigay talaga namin ‘yung best namin kanina. Wala na po kaming inisip kung sino man ’yan. Basta kami ’to, amin ’to, amin ‘yung bronze,” dagdag ni Arrogante.
