MANILA, Philippines - Kung ayaw ni Vic “The Raging Bull” Dar­chinyan na muli siyang makasagupa, aakyat na lamang ng weight division si Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, Jr.

Sa kanyang paglaban sa bantamweight class, maaari niyang hamunin si World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel ng Mexico.

“The demand for a rematch with Vic Darchinyan is very high but if he doesn’t want to fight me, I might as well move up in weight and face Fernando Montiel,” ani Donaire kahapon. “I could not wait for another year for Darchinyan.”

Dumating na sa bansa ang 27-anyos na si Donaire matapos pabagsakin si Me­xican challenger Manuel Vargas sa third round sa kanyang pagdedepensa sa World Boxing Association (WBA) inetrim super flyweright belt noong Pebrero 13 sa Las Vegas Hilton sa Las Vegas, Nevada.

Nakasama ng tubong Talibon, Bohol sa paglapag sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport ang kanyang asawang si taekwondo jin Rachel Marcial at ang ama nitong si Ger­ry Marcial.

Ilang beses nang nag-ingay ang 33-anyos na si Darchinyan kaugnay sa kanyang kagustuhang muling makasagupa si Donaire na umagaw sa kanyang dating suot na International boxing Federation (IBF) at International Boxing Organization (IBO) flyweight titles via fifth-round TKO noong Hulyo ng 2007.

“Sabi nga nila kailangang lumuhod muna ako para pumayag sila sa rematch. Eh tinalo ko nga siya noon eh,” ani Donaire sa kampo ni Darchinyan. Tangan ni Donaire ang 23-1-0 win-loss-draw ring record kasama ng 15 KOs, habang si Dar­chinyan ang kasalukuyang WBA at World Boxing Council (WBA) super flyweight champion. (Russell Cadayona)
