Binalaan ni American impresario Frank Belmont si Manny Pacquiao na ang kanyang nalalapit na laban kay Oscar Larios ng Mexico sa July 2 ay hindi basta-basta at ang home-town crowd ay maari pang maging mapanganib na senyales sa kampanya ng Pinoy ring idol na maging ‘greatest Filipino boxer’ sa kasaysayan ng boxing.
"Larios is a good boxer, not a great puncher, du-rable, quick, experienced and not easily intimidated," pagtukoy ni Belmont sa Mexican fighter mula sa Guadalajara.
Bilang pangulo ng Bel-monte Productions, alam ni Belmont ang kanyang sinasabi. Nasaksihan na niya ang magkakahiwalay na laban nina Larios at Pacquiao sa ‘Boxeo de Oro’ , isang buwanang TV series para sa Latin Ameri-can countries, na eksklu-sibo para sa Golden Boy Promotions.
Si Larios ay mainstay ng Golden Boy Promo-tions sa ilalim ni Oscar dela Hoya.
"Larios is not a super-impressive fighter, but he is very professional, always walking with his hands encased in enor-mous white training gloves searching for sparmates in the club," wika ni Belmont. "The Mexican has all the tools and if I am a manager, I’d like to own him."
Kapag nabigyan ng pagkakataon na maka-pagtrabaho sa pagpo-promote ng ABS-CBN para sa laban, sinab ni Belmont na nasa tamang daan ang higanteng net-work para maging world-caliber provider ng TV show. "If our offer is accepted, the Pacquiao-Larios fight would have a worldwide audience either on the US-based Direct-TV or IN-Demand affiliates in 50 countries," ani pa Belmont.
"Our programs are 90 percent sports-related and we are in contract with either cable providers to televise all international feeds for HBO Boxing".
Si Belmont ang duma-ting sa bansa ng walang nakakaalam noong Miyer-kules. Nais lang nito na makita ang Manila, Ara-neta Coliseum at ang mga Pinoy, na alam niyang nabighani sa mga naging tagumpay ni Pacquiao.
"I like what I’ve seen so far, and I’d like to relay a message to Pacquiao that there is an element of risk for any fighter fighting in his own home-town. As the promoter and hero in this coming drama, Pac-quiao could also get a lot of distractions, too many responsibilities and is very dangerous for even a good fighter."
