Tycoon Manny V. Pangilinan has broadened the digital multiverse of Metro Pacific to boost the country’s health delivery system, deploying even new-generation watches and rings to make health care accessible to more people.

He also targets  the  acquisition of 26 more hospitals to add to Metro Pacific Health’s current 24 medical centers, to hit a total of 40.

“As you know, we started our foray into the health care business when we invested in the Makati Medical Center sometime in 2007. And it has been quite a journey for us since 2007. We are now on our 24th hospital and growing each year.  Target (for Metro Pacific Health president Augusto Palisoc) is at least 40 hospitals,” Pangilinan said during “mWell Unboxed,” at which the digital health care arm of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC), unveiled a roster of innovative offerings in an impressive digital showcase.

Pangilinan said the target of 40 hospitals is “really a drop in the bucket on the basis of the number of hospitals. In this country, we have about 2, 000 hospitals, so we are only about 1.2 percent in number, perhaps bigger in terms of revenues and bigger in terms of service, but still that’s not enough to be able to adequately cover the health care requirements of our people,” Pangilinan or MVP, mWell chairman and MPIC chairman and CEO,  stressed at the well-attended, star-studded mWell event at the Grand Ballroom of Grand Hyatt Manila.

“And so that’s why we have to deploy technology in order to enlarge the reach of our hospital services and also provide more employment for our doctors,” he added, lauding Chaye Cabal-Revilla, mWell CEO and president and MPIC chief finance, risk, and sustainability officer for transforming the world of health care in the country into a multiverse.

“mWell was launched about two years ago headed by Chaye, and she’s done a great job in terms of propagating the kind of services that our people need to be able to cover as many people as we can,” MVP said. “mWell’s mission  is to demolish the barriers preventing our countrymen in remote areas from receiving  quality healthcare. Our platform is sustainable, future-proof, and fully integrated—allowing  us to bring healthcare closer to all Filipinos.”

For her part, Cabal-Revilla emphasized, “We believe that healthy people enable a healthy economy, a healthy planet  and a healthy tomorrow for our children.”

“mWell Unboxed” witnessed the launch of the Mind Health Score feature, new generation mWell Watches, which are fully loaded with health features at a budget-friendly price, and the light yet  powerful mWell Rings.

Hosted by Iza Calzado and Markki Stroem, “mWell Unboxed” transported guests to the mWell  multiverse, which showcased a full line-up of features and products, milestones, and  inspiring testimonials. The highlight of the event was the appearance of mWell ambassadors, who included top names in entertainment, government, lifestyle, sports, and foreign affairs.

A touching moment was when “little people” took center stage, alongside singers Jed Madela and Mark Bautista, who serenaded them.  Prior to this, they shared in a video how they experience difficulty commuting from their homes to health centers due to their physical limitations and how the mWell app has helped them gain access to check-ups and other health services, sometimes, without even having to leave the comforts of their home.
