National leaders take part in ‘Teach for the Phl Wk’

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Teach for the Philippines (TFP), an organization committed to end educational inequity in the country, recently celebrated the success of its first ever Teach for the Philippines Week (TFPW) which took place early last month. In an effort to expand its cause, the organization recruited key leaders in both public and private sectors to teach in several of its partner schools in Quezon City.

One of the guest teachers of the pioneer event, Robert de Ocampo, OBE (in photo), former Secretary of Finance who recently assumed the chairmanship in Philippine Veterans Bank, said that both the public and private sector must go hand-in-hand in ensuring that the public school system has equal access to an excellent education to level the playing field.

“This is a crucial time when the country is revamping its educational system, so we have to make sure that education is not a privilege but an equally accessible platform for every child through Teach for the Philippines Week. This program will send a clear message to succeeding generations that we believe in them and they are the country’s hope. That’s why we are trying to invest in them not only with proper funding, but also with passion,” de Ocampo said.

Among other TFPW guest teachers were Sen. Bam Aquino, TV host Boy Abunda, DepEd Undersecretary for Programs and Projects Dina Ocampo, Synergeia CEO Dr. Milwida Guevara, National Book Development Board Chairperson Neni Sta. Romana Cruz, children’s author and publisher Ramon Sunico, Dr. Luisa Puyat of the ABS-CBN Foundation, DZMM TeleRadyo station manager Marah Faner-Capuyan, economic counselor Joel Ehrendreich, HSBC Philippines chief operating officer John Nicholls, Millennium Challenge Corp. country director Matthew Bohn, Camille Lee and Alice Page of UBS AG, and Coca-Cola FEMSA director of corporate affairs Juan Dominguez.
