British School registers outstanding 2012 Int'l Baccalaureate exam results

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Mark Yao, BSM IB Cohort 2012, is the British School Manila’s top scorer in the school’s International Baccalaureate (IB) program. He gained the maximum point score of 45 points (he joins a top group of only 109 students who achieved this feat worldwide). Seven other students, Paolo Zaldarriaga, Nancy Zhuang, Krysten Gandhi, Michael Gonzalez, Michael Limandibhratha, Anica Villamayor and Michaela Tan, also reached the magic score of 40 points or more, putting them in the top 5 percent worldwide. The British School Manila’s average IB score was 34.3 points, significantly above the world average of 29.8. This is even more remarkable when we consider that 90 percent of the British School students sat the full diploma, compared to just 47 percent in IB schools worldwide.

The IB qualification is widely recognised as the most demanding and rigorous pre-university course in the world. It is also considered the most effective passport that an 18-year-old can hold to enter the best universities worldwide. The impressive IB results of the British School Manila students make them highly sought after by some of the top universities from around the world. Students have confirmed university places at outstanding institutions such as Harvard University, Kings College London, Stanford University, University College London, University of British Columbia and Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

The British School Manila (BSM) is an international school in the Philippines delivering the highest standard of British education and providing outstanding facilities for sports, music and the arts. The school prides itself on excellent results; in National Curriculum tests, GCSE and IB results the school far exceeds UK averages.

At present 800+ students aged 3-18 are on BSM’s roll and 39 nationalities are represented. British children make up 34 percent, Filipino 23 percent, Americans 9 percent and Australians 7 percent of the total population.
