Archers vent ire on Warriors
MANILA, Philippines — La Salle poured its wrath on hapless University of the East, 112-87, to get its title-retention drive back on track in the UAAP Season 89 men’s basketball yesterday at the PhilSports Arena.
The Green Archers jumped to a 31-19 start and never stepped on the brakes en route to the 25-point bounceback that halted their two-game skid and improved their record to 2-2.
Mason Amos scored a season-high 19 points on three triples laced by five rebounds, four assists and two steals in just 21 minutes of action to lead DLSU.
Gunner Jacob Cortez added 15 points and four assists as four more players finished in twin figures as the Archers erupted for their highest scoring output so far this season.
Cortez’ rookie brother Mikey broke through with 11 with Henry Agunanne (11), Doy Dungo (10) and Joaquin Tovera (10) also contributing big time.
Later, Kirby Mongcopa sizzled with 24 as rampaging FEU (3-1) notched its third straight win at the expense of the fancied UP (2-2), 90-79, for the joint lead with idle Ateneo (3-1) in an early UAAP order shake-up.
