Pabebe wave reaches US embassy

Pia Lee-Brago - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The AlDub fever has taken over the US embassy, with American staff doing the “pabebe wave” in a video posted on the embassy’s Facebook page.

“Yes they do! US diplomats ride the #pabebe wave! #AlDub #SaTamangPanahon #AlDubNation #AlDubNewBeginnings,” read the caption of the video which featured US embassy spokesman Kurt Hoyer and three female officers of the embassy’s Office of Public Affairs. The video got 3,319 likes and 1,005 shares as of Monday.

The nine-second video ends with a person speaking near a Philippine flag in front of a podium at the embassy, saying “Hi Five” and doing the pabebe wave.

The video drew comments from netizens.

“It’s odd to have US Embassy, Manila Philippines personnel doing #pabebe wave. Filipino social expression is contagious. Good to know this,” Marvin Bunyag commented.

In her comment, Angeli Pernecita Lol said “even the US embassy in Manila wasn’t able to resist the pabebe wave.”

Thess Santana said, “That’s cool pabebe wave.”

Lade Edward said “madali na uli akong mabigyan ng US visa.. mag papa bebe wave lang sa harap ng consul... hahah.. subukan nxt time…”

Ademar Ross said “If those isis can show to the world their pabebe wave too, then it means Aldub can unite the world. Spread the love! PEACE!”

A comment from Gene Murray said “YOUR NOT TAKIN CARE OF US CITZINS YOUR PLAYINGAMES putin on afront of all is good but in butuan theres terrorism and americans are in danger”

Catherine Macaraig said the US embassy personnel’s pabebe wave was nice, adding “nice to see them with #Aldub wave.”

The pabebe wave is a popular gesture of YayaDub, the character of Maine Mendoza in Eat Bulaga’s phenomenal Kalyeserye segment, where she is paired with actor Alden Richards.

Last Saturday’s show dubbed #AlDubEBTamangPanahon earned 41 million tweets, breaking the world record of 35.6 million tweets sent during the Brazil vs Germany semi-final of the World Cup on July 8, 2014.

The show filled the 55,000 seating capacity of the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.

When asked for reaction, Eat Bulaga co-host Sen. Vicente Sotto III said, “Yun na. Well, what do you know.”
