MANILA, Philippines — A lifetime ban was recommended for an e-taxi driver who sexually abused a passenger in Parañaque on Sept. 12, the Land Transportation Office said.

According to the LTO, the driver would be barred from obtaining or renewing his license, if he will be found guilty of sexually assaulting the female passenger.

A show-cause order was issued to the driver and the taxi’s registered owner to appear before the LTO intelligence and investigation division for a hearing on Sept. 24.

The case stemmed from a complaint filed by the passenger who alleged that she fell asleep during the trip on Sept. 12. She claimed that the driver took her to a different location, where she was abused, instead of dropping her off at her destination.

Investigators established the driver’s identity through a closed-circuit television footage and the passenger booking details.

Aside from the possible sanctions on the driver, the LTO said the registered owner or operator could be held liable under Joint Administrative Order 2014-01 for employing an insolent or discourteous driver and for breach of franchise conditions.
