46 degrees Celsius heat index logged in Cotabato
MANILA, Philippines — Cotabato City on Monday logged a heat index of 46 degrees Celsius, the highest recorded so far since state meteorologists started the monitoring in March.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the heat index is classified as “danger level,” which ranges from 42 to 51 degrees Celsius.
Exposure to “danger level” heat index with continued activity may result in heat stroke.
Meanwhile, PAGASA said that the ridge of a high-pressure area continues to affect Northern Luzon, which may experience hot and humid temperatures.
The state weather agency said a super typhoon was spotted some 2,620 kilometers east of Southern Tagalog, but will not enter the Philippine area of responsibility.
The super typhoon, which was given the international name Sinlaku, is packing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 230 kph.
