Binondo recruitment firm closed

MANILA, Philippines — A recruitment agency operating without a license in Binondo, Manila has been shut down.
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) closed Maxilum Recruitment Agency/Cell Venus Elite Workforce Manpower and Recruitment Agency Inc.
Workers enticed with a monthly salary of up to P100,000 under a three-year contract had paid placement or processing fees of up to P72,500.
“Despite payments, they were not deployed nor processed for overseas employment,” the DMW said.
Authorities arrested on March 25 the firm’s owner, Celisti Maxilum, along with her Russian fiancé and two armed bodyguards.
Factory and production jobs in Japan, New Zealand, Canada and Australia were offered by Maxilum through social media platforms such as TikTok, the DMW said.
“Possible victims of Maxilum are encouraged to contact the Migrant Workers Protection Bureau through facebook.com/dmwairtip, email ([email protected]) or hotline (+63 2 8721-0619) for legal assistance in filing cases,” the DMW said.
