Marcos signs law increasing PGH bed capacity

MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos has signed into law a bill seeking to increase the bed capacity of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) from 1,334 to 2,200.
In signing Republic Act (RA) 12210, Marcos said the “existing hospital facilities and health care services of the PGH shall be upgraded to conform with the increase in its bed capacity.”
The workforce of the PGH will be increased correspondingly, based on the law signed by the President on May 21.
The funding needed for the implementation of the law will be included in the annual General Appropriations Act.
PGH is considered as the biggest modern government tertiary hospital in the Philippines, servicing more than 700,000 patients yearly.
Marcos also signed RA 12211, establishing a Level 1 general hospital in Lucena City, Quezon.
To be known as the Lucena City Hospital, the facility will have a capacity of 100 beds.
The hospital will be under the control and supervision of the Department of Health.
Marcos also increased the bed capacity of the Wao District Hospital in Lanao del Sur from 50 to 100 through RA 12212.
The bed capacity of the Southern Tagalog Regional Hospital in Bacoor, Cavite tripled from 100 to 300 under RA 12213.
