CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines – The arrest of a driver of an election candidate in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan for alleged vote buying is legal, according to the Philippine National Police.

The PNP said the politician, whose identity was withheld, allegedly threatened to file charges against  the arresting officers.

Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, Central Luzon police director, said the PNP was authorized by the Commission on Elections to arrest violators of elections laws, especially those caught in the act.

Authorities are considering filing a case against the candidate, Fajardo said.

The driver was reportedly caught distributing food packs during the elections in Barangay Tungkong Mangga.
