NPA vice commander surrenders in Cagayan

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — A vice commander of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Cagayan province surrendered to the police after 20 years of fighting for the communist group.

Maj. Jefferson Mukay, 2nd Cagayan Provincial Mobile Force Company chief, said the surrender of alias “Ka Kulot” is a big blow to the rebel operations in the province.

Ka Kulot is a provincial committee member of the NPA’s Cagayan Abraham Command and is the second highest rebel in the province.

He is also the region’s “Top Most Wanted” and faces cases for robbery with arson, robbery, murder and attempted murder, among other cases, Mukay said.

He said Ka Kulot lost the drive to fight for the NPA and opted to lead a normal life with his family.

The rebel leader surrendered a machine gun, several explosive devices and bullets, Mukay said.
