MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) spotted outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) is expected to bring rain over Mindanao, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

PAGASA weather specialist Grace Castañeda said the weather disturbance was not expected to develop into a typhoon.

“The LPA we are currently monitoring outside PAR was last located 555 kilometers southeast of General Santos City. It has a low chance of developing into a typhoon, but its trough or extension is currently affecting Mindanao. There is a high chance of rain in the eastern portion of Mindanao,” Castañeda said.

The public has been advised to watch out for flash floods and landslides.

PAGASA said Caraga and Davao region would experience moderate to at times heavy rain due to the trough of the LPA.

Castañeda said the ridge of the high-pressure area would affect the eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon.

Luzon, including Metro Manila, will continue to experience high temperatures, she said, adding that Tuguegarao may experience 38 degrees Celsius.

“Based on our three-day outlook from Monday to Wednesday, a major portion of Luzon including Metro Manila, Baguio and Legazpi will continue to have high temperatures, especially at noon,” Castañeda said.

The temperature in Metro Manila may reach 34 degrees Celsius, she said.

Meanwhile, the town of Aparri in Cagayan and Guiuan in Eastern Samar, as well as Roxas City in Capiz sizzled on Saturday after the heat index reached 45 degrees Celsius.
