Ilocos village chief slain in ambush

VIGAN CITY, Philippines — A barangay chairman was killed in an attack by motorcycle-riding men in Magsingal, Ilocos Sur on Monday night.

Lawrence Angco, 60, of Barangay Poblacion, Sto. Domingo, was on his way home when he was killed.

Angco was on a motorcycle when the assailants blocked and shot him several times in Barangay Panay Norte.

The victim was declared dead on arrival at the Ilocos Sur District Hospital, where he was rushed by responding policemen.

The assailants fled on a motorcycle.

Probers have yet to determine the motive for the killing.
