Central Luzon cops on full alert for Betty
CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines — At least 3,000 policemen in Central Luzon are on standby to respond to emergencies due to Super Typhoon Betty.
Central Luzon police director Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr. said the measures implemented during previous typhoons are being carried out in preparation for Betty.
Hidalgo said the entire Central Luzon police is on full alert. He said the guidelines under the Philippine National Police Critical Incident Management Operational Procedures, including manpower, equipment and related capabilities for disaster response, are being observed.
He appealed to residents in low-lying areas to cooperate and heed the disaster preparedness plan of their local government units.
In La Union, Gov. Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David ordered disaster officials and volunteers to preposition all the needed equipment.
David directed local government officials to make the necessary preparations to minimize the risk and damage that may be caused by the typhoon.
She said emergency and rescue vehicles and equipment had been checked and are on standby.
David assured her constituents that all rescue and emergency hotlines in La Union are working and responders are on full alert. – Jun Elias
