Nearly 120,000 passengers flock to ports – PCG
MANILA, Philippines — Nearly 120,000 passengers were monitored by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) at ports across the country yesterday.
The PCG said it monitored 60,634 passengers going home for Christmas while 57,674 passengers arrived at various ports.
Philippine Ports Authority general manager Jay Santiago said the number of passengers at the Batangas port reached the pre-pandemic level.
He said the volume of passengers resulted in the shortage of vessels.
At least 2,108 PCG personnel in 15 district offices were deployed to inspect vessels, including motorized boats, to ensure the safety of passengers.
All PCG districts, stations and substations were placed under heightened alert from Dec. 15 to Jan. 7, 2023 to manage the influx of passengers.
The riding public has been advised to coordinate with the PCG through its official Facebook page or public affairs office through cell phone numbers 0927-560-7729 for inquiries, concerns and clarifications regarding sea travel protocols.
The PCG reiterated its call to commuters to avoid bringing prohibited items such as flammable materials, all types of firecrackers, liquor and deadly weapons to avoid inconvenience.
