Ferry collides with motor banca

MANILA, Philippines — A passenger ferry collided with a motorized banca in the waters off Batangas yesterday morning.

No one was reported killed or injured in the incident involving the M/V Stella del Mar and the banca.

“The collision occurred at around 11 a.m. off Matuco Point, which is about 500 meters away from Barangay Pagkilatan, Batangas City,” the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.

The roll-on roll-off vessel, which came from Oriental Mindoro, was reportedly headed to the Port of Batangas.

“The three passengers of the motor banca were rescued, but their boat was too damaged to be recovered,” Batangas port manager Joey Sinocruz said.

The PCG is investigating the incident.
