MANILA, Philippines — In order to keep up with the exponential rise of digital technology, the Philippine National Police (PNP) is expediting its shift to digitization, an official said yesterday.

Maj. Gen. Valeriano de Leon, PNP Directorate for Information and Communications Technology director, said even the criminal underworld are up-to-date with technological innovations.

The PNP’s Secured, Mobile, Artificial Intelligence Driven, and Real Technology Policing Road Map serves as the foundation for the digital transformation.

De Leon said the PNP has 15 active information and communications technology initiatives and eight solutions financed for execution this year but did not elaborate.

According to De Leon, even President Marcos emphasized the need for the Philippines to keep up with the rest of the world in terms of digital technology.

“This is a manifestation of the President’s deep appreciation for the role of information and communications technology as a game changer and a powerful tool in transforming government processes to promote excellent public services,” he said.

He also stressed the importance of keeping as many PNP employees as possible aware of the information and communications technology-related programs and projects in order to cascade all of these initiatives down to the lowest police units and stations.
