Soldiers overrun 2 NPA camps; 3 rebels killed

MANILA, Philippines — Government troopers seized two New People’s Army (NPA) camps following encounters in Negros Occidental and Cagayan on Wednesday.

In Misamis Oriental, the military said two NPA rebels were killed in a clash with soldiers belonging to the 58th Infantry Battalion (IB) in Sitio Haruhay, Barangay Lunotan in Gingoog yesterday.

Brig. Gen. Inocencio Pasaporte, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, said another communist guerrilla was killed in a clash with personnel of the 94th IB in Sitio Bulasot, Barangay Buenavista in Himamaylan City.

He said an M16 rifle, an M14, magazines with bullets and personal belongings were among the items seized at the NPA camp in Himamaylan.

In Sto. Niño town in Cagayan, Maj. Gen. Lawrence Mina, 5th Infantry Division commander, said 11 rifles of various caliber, AK47 rifles, machine guns, assorted bullets and bandoliers were among those recovered at an NPA camp that soldiers overran in Barangay Calassita. – Victor Martin, Gerry Lee Gorit , Ralph Edwin Villanueva
