MANILA, Philippines — Taguig City has been recognized by the national government for having one of the highest immunization rates during the fourth leg of the National Vaccination Day from March 10 to 18.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government and National Task Force Against COVID-19 awarded the city government with the recognition along with other local government units on Tuesday.

In his speech, Mayor Lino Cayetano attributed the local government’s accomplishment to the city’s hardworking healthcare workers.

“It has always been our health workers who put their health at risk and try their best to save lives. We thank them for their hard work and sacrifices,” Cayetano said.

As of Monday, 832,839 people in Taguig had been fully vaccinated, translating to 94 percent of the Department of Health’s projected population of the city for 2022.

Cayetano vowed to remain aggressive in disease surveillance and vaccination efforts despite the downward trend in COVID-19 cases.
