Six-hour glitch hits LRT-2

Ghio Ong - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) was hit with another breakdown that lasted for around six hours yesterday.

Train trips from Recto to Antipolo stations became unavailable starting at around 7 a.m., LRT-2 operator Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) announced.

The glitch was caused by problems in signaling, a system used to direct traffic along railways and keep trains from colliding with each other during journeys.

Passengers took to LRT-2’s Facebook and Twitter accounts to complain about the incident.

Normal operations resumed at past 1 p.m., the LRTA said.

The LRT-2 suffered the same breakdown for one hour last Tuesday.

The operation of the rail line encountered a major setback after fire damaged some of its power transformers, effectively shutting down three stations, in October 2019. The Santolan, Katipunan and Anonas stations reopened in January this year.

President Duterte led the opening of LRT-2’s new stations in Marikina and Masinag, Antipolo last July.
