Pinatubo holiday in Pampanga on Tuesday

Ric Sapnu - The Philippine Star

SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines — It’s a special non-working holiday in this province on Tuesday in observance of the 30th anniversary of the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo.

By authority of President Duterte, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea signed Proclamation 1159 declaring the holiday to give residents “full opportunity to commemorate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies.”

“To render appropriate tribute to those who perished as well as to those who survived and to those who helped in the relocation, rehabilitation, and recovery of families affected by the volcanic eruption,” the proclamation read.

The eruption of Mt. Pinatubo on June 15, 1991 caused massive destruction in Pampanga and nearby provinces.
