Samar town mayor wounded in shooting

CALBAYOG CITY, Philippines  – Mayor Vicente Limpiado Jr. of Tagapul-an town in Samar was wounded in a gun attack yesterday.

Limpiado, 47, was about to leave his farm in Barangay Sugod when he was shot at around 8 a.m. He was hit in the back when he tried to run.

He suffered three gunshot wounds and was taken to a rural health unit. He was later transferred to an undisclosed hospital.

Police said a manhunt for six suspects is ongoing.

Probers have yet to determine the motive for the slay attempt.

Philippine National Police chief Gen. Archie Gamboa ordered the police to expedite its investigation and ensure the immediate arrest of the perpetrators.
