MANILA, Philippines — More overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are returning home from Israel this week to escape the prevailing tension in the Middle East country, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported yesterday.

Another batch of 61 OFWs is scheduled to arrive from Israel on May 9, the DMW said.

“This is the largest group of OFWs who took the government’s voluntary repatriation program since hostilities broke out between Israel and the militant Palestinian group Hamas in October last year,” the DMW said.

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Cacdac will lead government officials in welcoming the OFWs upon their arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Hundreds of OFWs have returned to the Philippines from Israel since the Hamas attack last year.

The government has been extending repatriation and other assistance to OFWs who have encountered problems while working overseas.
