DPWH reopens Marcos Bridge
MANILA, Philippines — The Marcos Bridge along Marcos Highway in Marikina City, which was closed for five months for repairs, was reopened to motorists yesterday.
The bridge is now accessible to vehicular traffic, according to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar.
He said the DPWH finished the repair work six months ahead of its target completion.
Due to the traffic congestion caused by the bridge’s closure, Villar said they worked double time to speed up the rehabilitation of the structure.
Villar along with Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro led the reopening of the Marcos Bridge.
Teodoro said Marikeños who would visit their dead in the city’s five cemeteries could now pass through the bridge for easy travel.
“We are expecting some 200,000 vehicles to enter the city during Undas. So the opening of the bridge is timely,” he said.
The P213.46-million project involved the strengthening of the bridge’s girders and replacement of expansion joints, concrete sidewalks, railing and drain pipes.
