2 suspected bombers killed in Sultan Kudarat

TACURONG CITY, Philippines — Two suspected bombers of an Islamic State-inspired militant group were killed in an alleged shootout with police and military personnel in this city yesterday.

Initial reports reaching the Sultan Kudarat police showed that two men in a gray multicab engaged police officers in a running gunbattle after evading a checkpoint.

One of the fatalities was reportedly facing multiple murder charges in connection with recent bombings in Isulan town.

Police said the fatalities yielded a 9mm Beretta pistol with Philippine National Police markings, a KG9 pistol, various types of ammunition, an IS flag and an improvised explosive device.  – John Unson, Romina Cabrera
