Erap offers city hall post to janitor-turned lawyer
MANILA, Philippines - Impressed with former janitor-turned lawyer Ramil Comendador’s story, Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada on Thursday offered him the position of assistant city legal officer.
Estrada asked Comendador if he could be one of his legal assistants.
The mayor also joked that he might consider getting Comendador as his runningmate in the next elections.
Comendador started working as a janitor at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and is now serving as Malabon City election assistant.
Comendador received P100,000 and a plaque of recognition from Estrada.
Estrada said Comendador, who finished his law studies at the Unibersidad de Manila, could give back to the people of Manila by serving at city hall.
Comendador politely declined the offer, saying he has decided to stay with the Comelec office in Malabon.
Comendador placed 914th out of the 3,747 successful Bar examinees.
