Engineer, pal slain in bar shooting

MANILA, Philippines - An engineer and his friend were shot dead as they were having drinks at a beerhouse in Antipolo City Monday night.

Raul Tabayaay, 54, and his friend, Arwin Conseca, were declared dead on arrival at the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center due to several gunshot wounds in the body.

Melvin Enriquez was injured and was being treated in the same hospital.

The victims were having drinks at the Sabado Nights Resto Bar in Barangay Bagong Nayon when they were shot, said Senior Superintendent Bernabe Balba, Rizal provincial director.

Balba said two men from a nearby table shot at the victims at around 11:15 p.m. He said the assailants fled after the incident.

Meanwhile, in Laguna, a suspected drug trafficker and a police informer were killed while a police officer was wounded in a shootout in Lumban town Monday.

Provincial police director Senior Superintendent Florendo Saligao said Police Officer 2 Juanito Bacsal was rushed to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.

Saligao said police informer Virgilio Villarin and drug suspect John Aristotle Juaño died at the scene. – With Ed Amoroso
