'Glenda' to exit Luzon landmass before noon, out of PAR tomorrow

MANILA, Philippines - After an overnight onslaught in Bicol region and several other areas, including Metro Manila, Typhoon "Glenda" has started to move towards the sea.

In its 11 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the typhoon was expected to exit landmass by noon and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday morning.

Based on PAGASA's satellite data as of 10 a.m., the eye of the typhoon was estimated at 35 kilometers southeast of Subic, Zambales or in the vicinity of Bagac, Bataan.

The typhoon has slightly weakened, bearing maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 170 kph. It was still moving northwestward at a speed of 25 kph.

PAGASA advised that areas within the 500 kilometer diameter of the typhoon will continue to experience heavy to intense rainfall.

Public storm warning signals have been lowered in several areas.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has yet to issue a report on the extent of damage wrought by the typhoon in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

The agency has reported three fatalities in Batangas and Northern Samar. It said 373,177 persons have been evacuated in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol and Eastern Visayas.
