Saint’s relics brought to Army headquarters in Samar

Alexis Romero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The relics of St. Therese of the Child Jesus arrived the headquarters of the Army’s 8th Infantry Division (ID) in Catbalogan City, Samar last Sunday.

The saint’s relics were welcomed by Army troops led by Brig. Gen. Virgilio Espineli, assistant division commander, said.

Known as the “Little Flower of Jesus,” St. Therese was a French Carmelite nun known for her simplicity and her strong faith in God.

Her image is venerated in military churches in the Philippines, including the St. Ignatius Cathedral in Camp Aguinaldo.

Fr. Elmer Basas, division chaplain, said St. Therese’s life resembles the sacrifices of soldiers.

“St. Therese devoted her life loving Jesus until her death at the young age of 24, the soldiers also devoted their lives in the service to our country and people,” he said.
