Anchovies down 17 Cagayan folk
BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines – Seventeen residents of a fishing village in Ballesteros town in northern Cagayan were hospitalized after eating anchovies over the weekend.
Reports said the residents were rushed to the town’s district hospital Saturday night after experiencing stomach pain, vomiting and dizziness after eating freshly caught anchovies, commonly called dilis or monamon, used in making fish sauce (patis) and fish paste (bagoong).
Reports said the anchovies were only marinated in vinegar with onions, garlic and chili pepper.
